Tuesday 27th September 2011. We’re back! And so begins our fourth and final year…
Today saw our first trip to Warwick since moving in. We spent this morning waiting in for the Virgin technician to arrive and set up our internet, TV and landline phone, after which we drove over to campus. Josh went off for a meeting about the pool club, while I went to the library to collect some books and read for a while.
It was really surreal to be back after so long, retracing footsteps which simultaneously felt like such comfortably familiar habits and distant, almost forgotten memories. I feel so much older (dare I add wiser?) than I did the first time I ever set foot in this place.
With term still 6 days away, the library was eerily quiet, in a way that it only ever is at 8am during term time. It made a fantastic atmosphere for an hour of quiet reading - I know I’ll look back longingly on it come May (maybe even come October!)
Josh met me when he was finished with his pool business and we ate lunch on the grass outside the Sports Centre. As part of our new “being fit and healthy” regime, we’d booked a badminton court for an hour. This was quite a significant moment for me - the first time I’d ever used the Warwick Sport facilities; in fact, the first time I’d ever stepped inside the Sports Centre except for the sports fair. We didn’t play seriously, just practised for an hour because neither of us had played for years, but it was a lot of fun. Best of all, I think I may FINALLY have found a sport at which I stand a fighting chance of beating Josh one day. For the first time ever (in sporting terms, at least) we’re far more evenly matched than he expected: “oh, you’re actually better than I gave you credit for.” A good day for sporting firsts!
After badminton it was back home for more reading. I managed till 8pm tonight - how long do you think I can keep up this level of commitment?!
